SELT Preparation Courses

In order to qualify for our free courses, you need to be:

  • Over 19 years when you start the course at Innolearn

  • Resident in the UK or EU for the past 3 years with the right to work in the UK to avail UK funding

  • Be able to pass an Entry Exam confirming your English and Maths levels

  • International or self funded Students can apply at anytime.

To get a place, you first need to register for an Assessment Day below at one of our training centres. Just pick the most convenient place and time for you, and then turn up with your documentation

  • Proof of ID: passport or birth certificate .

  • Proof of benefits: JSA award letter from JCP or bank statement showing your JSA payment not older than 2 months if you claim benefits

  • Proof of address).

If you can prove your eligibility by bringing in all the necessary documents and you pass the initial assessment exam, you will be invited to enrol into the course. We’ll drop you an e-mail explaining the things you need to bring after you’ve chosen your time and place.

Trinity College SELT Preparation

Trinity College London’s Secure English Language Tests (SELTs) are approved for applications to the UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI) for Visas, Leave to Remain and British Citizenship. Also, Transport for London (Tfl) have recently introduced a requirement that all currently licensed mini-cab drivers must complete a SELT (ISE B1) to ensure their Tfl licence renewal –  please read  English for taxi drivers for more course details.

INNOLEARN is the main authorised Trinity College London SELT preparation course provider in London and Luton, able to provide test preparation for all UKVI and Tfl requirements. We also offer free assistance and support to students booking a SELT. We are able to prepare for the following Trinity SELTs 

Graded Examinations in Spoken English (GESE) – A1, A2 and B1 tests

Integrated Skills in English (ISE) – B1, B2 and C1 tests

Exam structure A1 & A2 (Trinity GESE Grade 2 & Grade 3)

The exam takes the form of an unscripted conversation with a Trinity examiner, and lasts between 5 and 7 minutes. The examiner uses visual materials to engage the candidate and create an authentic conversation to test their speaking and listening skills.

Exam structure B1 (Trinity GESE Grade 5)

The exam takes the form of an unscripted conversation with a Trinity examiner and lasts for 10 minutes. There are two parts to the exam:

The Topic discussion: the candidate selects a topic of their choice to prepare in advance and discuss with the examiner. It can be on any subject that interests them but must allow them to demonstrate the language functions and communicative skills required for the grade.

The Conversation: the candidate engages in a one-to-one conversation based on two subject areas appropriate to the grade.

Exam structure B1 (Trinity ISE 1) 

Candidates must pass both modules for an ISE I (B1) qualification.

ISE I consists of two exam modules:

  • Reading & Writing

  • Speaking & Listening

  • Reading & Writing 2 hours:                    Speaking & Listening 18 minutes:

  • 2 x Reading tasks                                    1 x Topic task

  • 1 x Reading into writing task                 1 x Conversation task

  • 1 x Writing task                                        2 x Listening task
